Easter is a high priority in the church year. After the last supper, the Lord was crucified, died and rised. All members celebrate it in a traditional way, but also, each Shrine of Europe has its own festivities for which they are known for all over the world.

Come with us on a journey of the common Cultural Agenda 2020 of the Shrines of Europe and explore the main festivities of each Shrine - now by photo and later by going there. Get inspired!

Last Supper with foot washing

All Shrines of Europe celebrate the Lord's Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.

During the mass in the Shrines of Mariazell, Czestochowa and Altötting, twelve men get their feet washed.

Stations of the Cross

One of the main Events in the Shrines of Europe during the Holy Week and Easter are the passion plays dedicated to the Stations of the Cross.

In Einsiedeln and Mariazell the Stations of the Cross take place in the streets of the town. Even so in Czestochowa. The Stations of the Cross take place along the city's main artery, the Avenue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, up to Jasna Góra, and will start at Daszyńskiego Square with a joint service at the monument of John Paul II. the Pilgrim. In the Shrine of Loreto the Stations of the Cross play is named "La morte del giusto" and starts in the evening and takes place in the city streets. A unique experience are the Stations of the Cross in Fatima. The "Via Sacra" is held at the medieval Village of Ourém and attracts every year several hundred visitors. At the Shrines of Lourdes and Altötting the Stations of the Cross are commemorated in the respective Basilica.

Vigil Night with festive Easter Mass

After the impressive event of the Stations of the Cross the Vigil Night occurs.

Hundres come together to celebrate and pray, the churches are lit by candlelight only.

A breathtaking and magical moment for all attendees.
